September Lovely

It was an amazing start to the month here in our northern desert.  Sunsets shifted from pink and burgundy tones reflecting the colours of smoke bush and buddleia. The early nights were balmy, nothing like the heat of summer nights.  These nights are those you savour, where you sit on the deck and feel the warm breeze knowing that soon it will be too cold to be out and windows will get shut.

This month has been all about my first test knitting project.  I was accepted by @this.bird.knits to knit a gorgeous sweater in colour work with fibre from @autumn&indigo.  Lovely independent designer and independent dyer.   My challenge was to knit a full pullover sweater in 6 weeks.

I made it! It is a wonderfully easy sweater to wear and the fibre is relaxed and soft.  It feels like a favourite already

Readying myself for fall and winter I also took time to begin to wash up two gorgeous Romney fleeces.   One white and one grey.  The white one is a gorgeous first shear from a 13 month old.  The grey is from a lovely older mama.  They are washing up beautifully.  I spun some of the white while in the grease but decided I was long past that stage (and patience) so once washed and dried I will bring out the carder and do some batts ready for winter spinning. The fleeces came to me from Nighthawk Ranch up in Big Creek BC.  They coat their sheep which is lovely.

The weather has turned this past week and we got some early snow on the mountains.  The air was unseasonably cold and definitely time to put the summer linens away and bring out jeans, long sleeves and sweaters.  Then today it was gorgeous!  The motto here is to enjoy each day as it comes.
On to my next project ~ completing some socks knit from blanks that I dyed about 2 summers ago - lots of greens, splashes of pink and some goldenrod yellow.

Made sushi tonight and can't wait for the CSA boxes this Thursday with all the produce in this late summer bounty.  Pretty sure there will be some lovely eggplant, fennel, carrots - and I have already harvested our basil for this year.  Nothing like pesto in the middle of winter to remind us that summer will come again.

Close to fire times, socks, sweaters, hot tea and hunkering down.
